Giacomo Valle, BS, MS, PhD

Laboratory for Neuroengineering, Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST), Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems (IRIS), ETH-Zürich, Zürich, Switzerland

Giacomo Valle received the B.S degree in Biomedical Engineering, in 2014, and the M.S. degree in Bioengineering curriculum Neuroengineering & Bio-ICT (110 cum laude and DS), in 2016, from the Department of Computer Science, Bioengineering, Robotics and Systems Engineering (DIBRIS) in University of Genoa, Genoa, Italy. Giacomo Valle worked as Research Assistant at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in the Translational Neural Engineering Lab (TNE), Lausanne, Switzerland. He recently finished the Ph.D in Biorobotics (cum laude) at the The Biorobotics Institute, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa, Italy). He was a visiting researcher at EPFL in Lausanne, at Policlinico A. Gemelli in Rome, Clinical center of Serbia in Belgrade and at ETH in Zurich. Giacomo Valle is currently a Postdoctoral researcher at Neuroengineering Lab, Department of Health Sciences and Technology, ETH Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland.

Giacomo Valle recently won the BRIDGE Proof of Concept Fellow promoted by Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and Innosuisse. He is a member of America Society for Neuroscience. He was a major player in two clinical trials with 6 amputees involving international clinical centers and European research institutions. He participated to the first implant of electrodes for sensory feedback in leg amputees and the first long-term implant for sensory feedback in hand amputees in Europe. Giacomo Valle is the Team Leader of Neurolegs team participating in Cybathlon 2020 in Zurich Powered Leg Prosthesis Race.

His research interests are in neuroengineering, neurorehabilitation and computational models: neuroprostheses in animal and human models for the peripheral stimulation of the nervous system in order to understand the neural control of movement, the prostheses control, the sense of touch and the sensory feedback.
